What is DroidDeck?

DroidDeck is an open-source Android app that brings Valve's ARM64 Steam client and a game compatibility environment to supported Adreno devices.

Steam runs locally in its Big Picture / Steam Deck interface. Windows games use Proton and supporting components inside a Linux runtime, so the app is not installing a complete SteamOS system and it is not making every Windows game native.

The work happens on the Android device. A PC is not required, although the first setup, client downloads, game downloads, and account services need a network connection.

What can DroidDeck do?

These capabilities are documented for the current 0.4.0 application release.

  1. 01

    Use the real Steam client

DroidDeck downloads Valve's ARM64 Steam client and opens its Big Picture / Steam Deck interface on your Android device.

  2. 02

    Launch games locally

Windows games run through the Linux runtime, ARM64 Proton, FEX, and graphics components. Compatibility still varies by game and device.

  3. 03

    Choose how you control games

Version 0.4.0 includes Steam touch controls in beta, multiple controller modes, and support for up to four connected controllers.

  4. 04

    Add an optional desktop

The separate Desktop & apps install provides a KDE Plasma desktop, Linux applications, and emulator tooling.

  5. 05

    Connect other game stores

GOG, Epic Games, and Amazon Games can add downloads to Steam as non-Steam games. GOG and Epic include cloud-save support.

How to get started

Move through the setup in order and confirm each result before continuing.

  1. 1

    Check your device

Confirm Android and GPU eligibility before downloading.

  2. 2

    Open GitHub Releases

Get the official APK without using a third-party mirror.

  3. 3

    Install the runtime

Allow about 3 GB and let DroidDeck verify the download.

  4. 4

    Change one Android setting

Disable the child-process limit before Steam starts.

  5. 5

    Press Play

Let Steam download, then sign in inside the Steam client.

Supported devices

The public 0.4.0 requirement is Android 9 or newer with a supported Adreno GPU. Meeting that requirement does not mean a phone or every game has been tested.

DroidDeck FAQ

Short answers to the questions that matter before downloading.

Is DroidDeck free?

Yes. DroidDeck is open-source software released under GPL-3.0. Games and paid services still require their own licences or purchases.

Does DroidDeck require root?

No. The official 0.4.0 README states that root access is not required.

Where is the official DroidDeck download?

The official source is the Droid-Deck repository on GitHub. Every download link on this guide opens GitHub Releases; this site hosts no APK files.

What device does DroidDeck need?

The published 0.4.0 requirement is Android 9 or newer with Adreno 730 or newer, or Adreno 8xx. Adreno 6xx is described as experimental.

Do I need a gaming PC?

No. DroidDeck runs the Steam client and game compatibility stack on the Android device instead of streaming from a PC.

Can DroidDeck play every Steam game?

No. Game support varies with the GPU, driver, Proton and component versions, anti-cheat, launchers, and each game's requirements.

Can I use DroidDeck offline?

The runtime is local, but offline play still depends on the individual game's network, account, licence-check, and launcher requirements.
