Official release and notes

Which APK should I choose?

Start with the unsuffixed APK. The three alternatives contain the same app but use package identities associated with apps that some phones recognize for performance modes. They install beside one another and keep separate Android app data.

Use the standard APK unless you have a verified device-specific reason not to.

The official release does not assign a particular alternative to a list of supported phone models.

APK vs runtime

The APK is only the first part of the DroidDeck setup.

Android package

DroidDeck APK

Installs the launcher, setup screens, controls, and Android integration.

Local environment

Linux runtime

Provides the local gamescope and Linux environment that Steam and games need.

Account and library

Steam client

Valve's ARM64 Steam client downloads on first Play. Sign in inside that client, not on this guide.

Game compatibility

Proton and components

DroidDeck manages compatible Proton, FEX, DXVK, and VKD3D components as needed.

Storage requirements

These figures describe different parts of the installation and must not be added up as a universal final total.

Updating DroidDeck

Check the official Releases page and read the release notes before installing an update. Android treats each package identity as a different app, so keep the same variant when you intend to update an existing installation.

Do not assume every package change is a seamless upgrade.

The official materials do not guarantee that switching package identities preserves settings, game files, prefixes, or saves. Back up data using game and platform features where available.

Next steps

Check your Android and GPU requirements, then complete the runtime and system-setting steps in order.

DroidDeck download FAQ

Is the DroidDeck download free?

Yes. DroidDeck is open-source software under GPL-3.0. Games and paid services still require their own licences or purchases.

Why does the download button open GitHub?

GitHub Releases is the official distribution source. This independent guide does not mirror, repackage, or modify DroidDeck APK files.

Which DroidDeck APK should I download?

Use the unsuffixed DroidDeck-0.4.0.apk as the standard choice. The other APKs only change the Android package identity for phones that expose performance modes to selected package names.

Is the APK the whole installation?

No. The APK installs the Android app. DroidDeck then installs a separate Linux runtime, and Steam downloads on first launch. Optional components and games use more space.

Can I switch between the standard and alternative APKs?

Each package identity installs as a separate Android app with separate data. Do not assume settings, game files, or sign-in state transfer between package variants.
